St Mungo Golf Club was established in 1891 by members of Glasgow Licensed Trade. The members were mainly publicans and to this day some connection with the licensed trade is a condition of membership. Because there are many fewer privately owned pubs these days our mebership includes club stewards, hotel managers and suppliers to the trade.
St Mungo is a fully constituted club that is a member of the Scottish Golf Union and of Glasgow Golf Union. Very early on the members came to an agreement with The Irvine Golf Club that St Mungo's would use Irvine Bogside as their home course. The arrangement was mutually beneficial as St Mungo members provided funding which enabled IGC to build the impressive clubhouse.
St Mungo has tee times reserved every Thursday from 10 to 11 am. This is when club competitions are played. Members often also meet on Tuesdays around the same time for social golf and members are entitled to play the course at any other time except on Saturdays when IGC play their competitions.
